چکیده

New insight on local inhibition effects of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI) early stage intergranular corrosion copper in hydrochloric acid solution is reported from situ analysis at the nanometer scale and comparison with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) same pre-adsorption testing conditions. Macroscopic cyclic voltammetry analysis, including grains grain boundary (GB) network, showed a passivation-like behavior Cu(I) oxidation range, specific to MBI since not observed MBT assigned anodic formation surface film Cu(I)-MBI reaction products protecting against dissolution. Electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy revealed net dissolution, mitigated by imperfect protection provided anodically formed layer. It also accumulation GB regions, blocking preferential For random GBs, was dominant, agreement expected higher reactivity these GBs generating more ions under polarization thus less efficiently protected Coincidence Site Lattice (CSL) boundaries, dissolution frequently observed. Coherent twins equally efficient region than adjacent grains. generated form their regions.

Scanning Tunneling Microscopy of Surface Structures

Surface science got a new impact with the development of the seanning tunneling microscope, since for the first time atomic-resolution observations of surface structures in real space have becomepossible. Following ashort description of the basic features of the seanning tunneling microscopy, some selected results are presented which illustrate the potential of the technique to provide informat...

Scanning tunneling microscopy characterization of the surface morphology of copper films grown on mica and quartz

The morphology of copper films grown on quartz, mica, and Ti/quartz has been investigated by means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Films grown on quartz, both bare and pre-plated with titanium, are characterized by self-affine fractal scaling behavior over the length scale of 10 ̈500 nm, while films grown on mica are not. Annealing of the films to 340 -C reduces the root-mean-square (RMS...

In-situ scanning tunneling microscopy of the semiconductor-electrolyte interface

The great reactivity o f semiconductor surfaces and the easy formation o f oxide layers make in-situ STM imaging o f tlie semiconductors/electrolyte interface difficult at a high resolution. Additionally, STM imaging o f such interfaces requires some care as far tunneling conditions are concerned. The paper analyses this question with the system SiINaOH to illustrate the latest advances concern...
